Garage Door Openers
A few decades ago, garage door openers were seen as a luxury, now they are seen as a valuable necessity. Most of us cannot imagine going without the convenience and security provided by a garage door opener that allows us to open our garage door with the touch of a button, without ever having to exit our vehicle.
We understand how important a properly working garage door opener is to our customers. That’s why we are sure to provide openers and remotes that offer the latest innovations in quality and security. Several types and brands of openers are available. The most chosen brand that seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest is Liftmaster/Chamberlain. We are proud to offer these garage door openers to our customers.
Choosing a Garage Door Opener
With so many different styles and features available in modern garage door openers, it can be hard to choose one. Here are some things to consider when deciding on a garage door opener.
Drives
Garage doors come with a variety of drive options including belt drive, screw drive, chain drive and side mount (jackshaft). Chain drive openers are the most common, and we offer a large variety. They are dependable and heavy duty, but also rather noisy.
Belt drive garage door openers are the type we recommend the most. They are reliable and quiet. Although more expensive, they usually come with a lifetime warranty so our customers never have to worry about their opener again.
Screw drive garage door openers are a great option for a southern home, but we don’t recommend them for houses in colder climates. They have few moving parts and don’t’ require much maintenance. They operate by the mechanism lifting along a threaded steel rod. They are a bit louder and slower than belt drive garage doors.
Side mount (jackshaft) is a more recent type of residential door opener. It is mounted on the same wall as the door, so there is no need for an overhead track or drive system. These heavy residential doors make almost no sound whatsoever.
Motors
Originally, all garage doors worked on AC powered motors, but now garage doors primarily use DC as it allows for better speed control and assortment of features. They are also smaller, lighter and quieter than AC motors. Of course, these DC motors require conversion from AC power, but they offer a battery backup system in which the garage door can still be opened and closed during a power outage.
There are also various options with the horsepower of the opener. Higher horsepower motors have the ability to start and stop the garage door should there ever be a problem with the garage door’s spring system.
Security
When it comes to protecting your family, you can never do too much. Garage door openers are providing even more security to protect your family, house and belongings. Some of the latest technology includes what’s called a rolling code. This means that each time the transmitter is operated, it sends the code to the receiver but also creates a new code for the next operation. There are more than 100-billion codes that can never be repeated.
Other features include multi-function remote controls that can open the garage door and turn on your home’s lights. A wireless keyless entry system is also available that lets you open the door with a four-digit code.
